According
to the first verse of 2 Samuel 22, it was not only Saul who was seeking to kill
him. There were other enemies as well. The scripture
says, "David spoke the words of this song, on the day the Lord had delivered him
from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul".
As
we read these verses, our understanding of King David is amplified.
He was without question a man of great faith, as well as man of
courage. His faith had very little to do with who he, David
was. It was founded on Who his God, Jehovah was.
In
the first few verses we see David referring to God as his Rock, Fortress,
Deliverer, Strength, Shield, Salvation, Stronghold, Refuge and Savior, Who is
worthy to be praised. Wow, what an awesome view of the greatness
of God! How important it is for each one of us to see our God
through the eyes of David.
Beginning at
verse 29, David makes declarations that begin with "You are", and over the
next verses honors God for who He is as well as what He has done.
Often in the business of life we find ourselves forgetting who He is and
seeing only what He does.
- My
cry entered His ears!
- The
Lord thundered from heaven in my defense.
- The
Lord was my support.
- He
delivered me because He delighted in me.
- The
Lord will enlighten my darkness.
- He
makes my way perfect.
- He
teaches my hands to make war.
- The
Lord lives!!
We
will not try to follow all the statements of this passage telling of Who He
is. I encourage you to take time to read and meditate on all of
them. No matter what our need is, He is the answer. He has
encouraged us to call upon Him in the time of trouble and He will deliver us
(Psa.50:15).
Notice
David's conclusion, "therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord among the
Gentiles, and sing praises to Your name. He is the tower of salvation to His
king, He shows mercy to His anointed, to David. Please notice,
"and his descendants forevermore". Wow, this means you and me and
our families. No matter what the powers of darkness plot against
us, He is the tower of salvation. He shows mercy to His anointed
forevermore.
Join
me in praising the Lord for His deliverance. He is worthy!
