The Centrality of "Doing"
"of all that Jesus began to DO and TEACH."
My firm conviction is we, God's people, God's Church, those who have been redeemed, purchased, washed by his precious blood, must rise up and take our rightful place in our generation. True Christianity must be more than words and creeds, it must be the life style of the redeemed. It must be more than what we claim to believe, more than what we teach, it must be what we DO!
Among the many outstanding evidences of Jesus as the Christ was how he lived - His life style.
So much could be said here. Time and space do not permit the full expression. However, a sincere study of the Life of Jesus proves beyond a doubt He was a doer of all He taught. His life was a living Example!
- He taught on prayer - He gave Himself to pray
- He taught on righteous, pure, holy living - He could say "Which one of you convinces me of sin"
- He taught on sacrifice - His life was a life of sacrifice, even to His death.
- He taught on forgiveness - Some of His last words on the cross were "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."
- He taught on love - He so loved that He gave His life willingly for our redemption.
- He taught concerning life after death, the resurrection - He is the resurrection and the life.
- He taught and promised to build His church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it - In spite of all the powers of hell, all the failures of men, His Church is alive and well!
- He promised His disciples the empowerment of the Holy Spirit after His ascension - The Holy Spirit fell on the day of Penticost and is still falling today.
- He taught that the whole gospel will be preached to the whole world - We, His church, are His instruments and the fulfillment is well within our reach today!
It is so important in our confused and mixed up society that we, His church, be more than hearers of His word. We must become doers also.
May there a be an awakening and empowerment upon the Church of Jesus Christ - you and me - the true believers - His disciples - the redeemed of the Lord - His body right here and now on earth; that will elevate us from being hearers to doers of all that Jesus began to do and teach.
Remember the words of our master - the Christ, our risen Lord - in James 1:21-27
- Lay aside all wickedness and receive the implanted word
- Be doers of the Word, not hearers only.
- A non-doing hearer soon forgets who he is and his mission
- A doer is blessed in all he does
- A non-doing believer's religion is vain, empty and useless!
- Pure, undefiled religion is to do His will and to keep oneself "unspotted from the world."
"Lord Jesus, I offer and commit myself afresh to follow your example to be a doer of all I believe and teach. Forgive me for my weakness. Empower me with your presence and strength that I might be like you - a doer of all I teach, an example of your Lordship in my life."
